Victim Count Increases As Pahang Flood Worsens

Pahangites received a wet welcome into the new year this year. On the 1st of January 2021, Pahang was surprised by a flood that has forced thousands of people in the state out of their homes.

The monsoon season has since claimed 5,904 people from 2,171 families in Pahang as victims. This number is an increase from the 44 victims who were residing in relief centers early yesterday. Thankfully, a total of 134 relief centers have since been opened in nine districts across the state.

The top 3 districts in Pahang that are badly hit by the floods are Kuantan where 16 relief shelters are occupied with 1,829 victims from 483 families. Jerantut is in second place where 19 relief centers are considered a temporary home to 870 victims from 195 families. Followed by Raub with 855 victims with 291 families pursuing short-lived accommodations at 36 relief centers.
