Musk’s new net worth of USD 188.5 billion places him a spot higher than Amazon’s Jeff Bezos who has held the title of World’s Wealthiest Man for the past four years until now. Although Bezos still remains one of the few billionaires on Earth, he still falls short of Musk’s worth by USD 1.5 billion.
Achieving this title is a great feat for Musk especially when his net worth shot up by US$150 billion within 12 short months. Musk has done the fastest bout of wealth creation in history. Musk’s worth rose due to an unprecedented rally in Tesla’s share price, sparking interest from Wall Street and retail investors.

When the news broke out of his new title, Musk took to Twitter to share his opinions on his wealth. In a tweet, Musk aptly posted, "How strange,". In another follow up post, he was then saying, "Well, back to work...". Fans of Tesla and Musk can agree that his nonchalant reaction was highly expected.
Musk also shared his plans on where his wealth will be spent. In true spirit of his unconventional behavior, he claims that his extraordinary wealth will be used “to help problems on Earth” while also “to help establish a self-sustaining city on Mars”. He added that the colony on Mars would be just in case we get hit by a Meteor or go through another world war.
